Community
Mission
Shepherding

Organizing our common life in parishes (or smaller, geographical communities that exist over long periods of time) can help us deepen three biblical priorities in our life together:

  1. “How do we give and receive Care at Trinity?” Shepherding (or pastoral prayer, care, nurturance and guidance). All of us, like sheep, are often lost and hungry. We want members of Trinity to know and be known by an elder or other caregiver.
  2. “How do I Connect at Trinity?” Community (an authentic community of love that is rooted in the Word of God and prayer). We want members of Trinity to know and be known by each other.
  3. “How do I Contribute at Trinity?” Mission (or the expenditure of our gifts and energies for God’s redemptive purposes). We want members of Trinity to know and be known by the World.

Trinity is one church and will remain united in the ways it always has been. We gather for corporate worship and churchwide events. Parishes will extend our welcoming and inclusion of people by offering a place (in addition to Sunday mornings) where each person belongs and knows he or she is welcome. Of course, many people at Trinity have experienced good care and deep fellowship, and have found a place to use their God-given gifts fruitfully. Parishes are not intended to impair or diminish what is already “working.” But many people have difficulty finding these things in a church our size. Parishes will provide a clear path for those wishing to plug in and grow at Trinity, as well as for those already plugged in to know how to meet new attenders.

Determine Your Parish
There are five parishes: North, South, East, West and City. Parishes are, in general, determined by middle school, though there are some exceptions. If you know which middle school district you're in, see the list below or look at the map to determine which is your parish. If you don't know your middle school district, go to the Albemarle County website and follow these instructions:

  1. Enter your house number and choose your street from the pulldown menu. If the street you’re looking for does not appear on the list, it means that it is not in Albemarle County; it is either in the city of Charlottesville or an outlying county.
  2. Click “Search.”
  3. When the listing appears, click “Map.”
  4. Click the “Legend” tab over the map on the right.
  5. Scroll until you see “Middle School Districts" and click the check box next to it.
  6. Click “Refresh Map” in the right corner.
  7. The map will be refreshed and the Middle School District will appear on the map.

Offer your gifts and energies to the Lord, your elders and your Parish Leadership Team. Do this with a spirit of love and patience, as we are on the front end of something that will require God’s help and will take years to develop. And please feel free to offer any helpful thoughts or concerns to John Cunningham, Pastor for Community - Parishes & Shepherding, or to Ellen Foster, Coordinator for Parish Life.
