Overview

As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.
John 20:21

The church is the community of Jesus who has been chosen out of the world and then sent back onto the world. Mission is as fundamental to us as it was to Christ...in order to qualify for the name 'church' we must be a community deeply and constantly aware of our 'sentness' and actively loyal to this part of our Christian identity.
John Stott, "The Lord Christ is a Missionary Christ," in Declare His Glory, David M. Howard, ed.

At Trinity, we work out our "sentness" in both world and local missions. We support the work of the Kingdom in prayer, in financial support and in sending people for both short- and long- term mission work.

2010 GLOBAL MISSION CONFERENCE

Every year Trinity gives hundreds of thousands of dollars to more than 50 global mission partners around the world. This year, for our annual Global Mission Conference, we will hear from Kirk Ogden about what it means to be one congregation trying to participate in God’s global mission through the sending and support of individual missionaries and the cultivation of long-term partnerships. We’ve asked Kirk to speak from his vantage point as the director of South America Mission and from his personal knowledge of Trinity, as one of our former elders. Where are the significant movements of God and His church in the world today? How can we best use the resources of people, time and money that we have here at Trinity to participate in the global church and global missionary work today? Why is it important for us to remain connected to our global missionaries and to value the reports and news that they send to us? Meanwhile our children will be learning about the Massey family, missionaries from Trinity in Bolivia with South America Mission, and particularly the lives of the children, Sam, Georgia and Ty.

The schedule for the conference this year is a little different than normal, so please do take a careful look at it. We invite you, at the end of the teaching time on Saturday afternoon, February 6, to join us for a congregational dinner. Wade Bradshaw and Katie Pennock will give a brief update on Trinity’s global mission support and relationships, and we will eat international food and enjoy fellowship together. Children at the children’s program will join their parents for dinner, but the nursery will remain open (please register children). Tickets for dinner are available by emailing Katie Pennock. Tickets are $3 per person or $10 maximum for a family.

About Our Speaker, Kirk Ogden
Kirk and Emily Ogden joined South America Mission (SAM) in June of 1999 after spending a number of years ministering with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Kirk is a third-generation SAM missionary. After serving for 2 1/2 years in a church-planting and development ministry in San Ignacio, the Ogdens returned to the United States to serve in mobilization for SAM. They lived in Charlottesville and were members of Trinity, and Kirk served as a ruling elder. On January 1, 2009, Kirk became executive director of SAM and the Ogdens moved to the greater Charlotte area to serve from the home office. Kirk and Emily have three children, Jessie, Liam and Rebecca, and another on the way.
